Marji is a recently "graduated" homeschooling mom whose twin girls have blessed her by sticking around the nest for a little longer. She spends her days directing the children’s music program at her church and working with the authors of Write Integrity Press to put out the best possible version of their books. Raised in suburban Dallas, she got her first taste of writing through the stories of brilliant authors of their day, Mignon Eberhart and Phyllis A. Whitney, and through stage experience. Good question. The advice I've been given is to find where on the shelf of a bookstore my story should go, so yes, it needs to fit in a specific genre. And no. Those brave souls who write outside of the box (usually called speculative fiction, I think) are the ones who created all the current genres in the first place. And new ones move in an out all the time depending on whether they catch on or not. For the most part, though, with an untried author, publishers are rarely willing to put in all the time and money and work of putting a book together when the genre is unproven.In fact, they'll go to some of the large conferences looking for specific genres to spread out their lines. (And from what I understand, right now, romantic suspense is hot.)Thanks for visiting and I hope you took notes on the 5P above. You'll need them tomorrow!

I've been writing a couple comparison essay's this week 😉 As an author do you worry about writing a story that does not clearly fit into a specific genre that can be marketed to a specific audience?
