Truly, this post was inspired by some credit card commercial. “What’s in your wallet.” LOL! I couldn’t help but think of that silly question when I started contemplating passions. I would say, though, that a better question is what’s on your calendar.
There are some things I really enjoy:
- Writing
- NASCAR
- Directing my children’s choir
- Social Media
- Digital Scrapbooking
These are also the things on which I spend the majority of my undesignated time. Beyond my faith and family, and besides the tasks I have to do, I relish opportunity to participate in any of these things and find myself thinking about them when I can’t actually “play.”
Wanna know how I know these are my passions? Here are a few observations. The Sprint Cup race schedule is actually posted on my fridge and I schedule the races on my recorder (along with three or four shows that follow just in case they bleed over) every week. I daydream new ideas for my kids’ choir and new layouts for my girls’ scrapbooks. I’m always jotting down notes for a new blog article.
And as for writing, lemme tell ya. The other day I waited in a drive-through, for a milk shake for my new brace-wearing teenager, and a truck drove by. Iron Mountain Secure Document Disposal. By the time I picked up my girls and their friend, I could tell them the whole story I’d made up about mistaken identity and a crazy heist. My daughter’s friend chimed in, “You got all that from a truck?” Ha! Needless to say, writing fiction totally jazzes me!
I know I’ve heard ministers say that you can see people’s hearts by what is on their calendar and in their checkbook. In the past I’ve heard it in a negative tone that tended to judge if there weren’t enough church activities. I’m not one to judge, though. I’m actually truly curious.
And there is a point to this coming up next week! Check out Passions USED!
Your Turn: What’s your passion? What jazzes you and gets most of your off-time?

NASCAR? How come that surprises me about you, Marji. LOL
My main passion is seeing people walk in freedom. No joke. Brings a tear to my eye every time I read about someone or witness a person freed up to really live.
Hope that’s not hokey.

No, I openly weep when I see it or read about it! Such a joy that God shares that with us!

Fun!! I LOVE the truck thing–that’s hilarious! 🙂 (Can I hear the story? 🙂 ) I am a story-aholic–the funnier and/or more mysterious the better! (Love Psych on TV….)
Other than writing/reading, my passions have changed vastly from B. L. T. I. (Before Long Term Illness). But God has given me plenty to be passionate about anyway! 🙂 I love photography, the Black Hills where we live, encouraging people/being encouraged/laughing (social media), and hearing my children laugh at my funny stories. Also organizing (if nothing else, barking orders from my bed to re-organize a bit of the house. 🙂 )
Oh, I keep forgetting to have my older kids finish that story-starter you posted; maybe I’ll remember at the right time one day!

My “spare” time (ha, ha!) is all about my dogs, training them, trialing them, going to clinics and trials where I spend the weekend with a great group of like minded friends and some very special women I consider my “sistas”. Writing, of course. Painting and photography when I get the chance.

Marji, with 2 jobs and the writing, I don’t have a lot of off time, but the thing that often gets me moving when I don’t want to, and the thing that gets a nice chunk of my discretionary money is vacation. First the planning stage. I surf web sites, look at excursions, do price outlines and activity spreadsheets, then the booking phase, and last (and where I am now) is the countdown. I am 56 days from my next vacation. When I get home, I’ll start the early planning stage for 2014. (Alaskan cruise)

Oh how fun! I’ve never had a passion for travel, but when I do, I just love the planning part of it. Where do you go this year?
