I Love a Good Mystery!

Top 10 Book List Update

_MG_2730sqI’m more than halfway through the year, so I’m behind on my reading Top 10 list. At the same time, I’ve read some books that weren’t on my list that were sheer delights. Check out a quick tour through my library.

My original list consisted of:

Shattered by Dani PettreySo far, I’m five and five. I’ve read Shattered, Lethal Legacy, Tidewater Inn, Digging up Death, and Critical Condition (which I will review soon). I’m in the middle of Dying to Read and have also started Full Disclosure. You can find my reviews of these books – the ones I’ve posted so far – at the links provided. I liked the mystery of Digging up Death—nice twists. I think my favorite so far is Tidewater Inn, but Shattered, Critical Condition, and Lethal Legacy give chase.

You know how you’ll start reading a book and it just doesn’t grab you. Chances are it has nothing to do with the book itself, but more with the mood of the reader. That’s what I’m facing with Full Disclosure. I’m not sure I’ll finish that one. I felt the same way after reading the first ten or so pages of Hostage in Havana. I might give that one another try. But I’ll likely finish Dying to Read. I’m engaged enough in it that the story survives the gaps between my reading opportunities. High on my list is Talk of the Town and Gathering Storm.

In addition to my list, I’m delighted to have read:

These were such diverse stories and I honestly loved each one of them. I’d be hard-pressed to find a favorite here, although Illuminated has become the all-time favorite of my girls. I hope to have up reviews of all of these very soon. If you want to find listings of all of my reviews, check out the “For Readers” tab.

In addition to the rest of my list, I’m excited to complete Lynette Eason’s Deadly Reunion series that started with When the Smoke Clears. There are two other books in that group: When a Heart Stops, and When a Secret Kills. I don’t usually go for a series that is so deeply connected, but these will be worth it. Also high on my updated list is Dani Pettrey’s third book, Stranded. I can’t wait for that one! And I have Mary Jane Hathaway’s second book, Emma, Mr. Knightley, and Chili-Slaw Dogs. Despite poor editing on her first one, I really enjoyed the story and hope that her second one is as good. In addition to those, I’m becoming a sucker for the Love Inspired Suspense books. Such quick reads and I’ve loved each one that I’ve read!

Your Turn: What was the latest book you read? Did you like it?

She spends her days directing the children’s music program at her church and working with the authors of Write Integrity Press to put out the best possible version of their books. Raised in suburban Dallas, she got her first taste of writing through the stories of brilliant authors of their day, Mignon Eberhart and Phyllis A. Whitney, and through stage experience. After directing and acting in productions for decades, Marji started writing her own scripts. From that early beginning, she delved into creating scintillating suspense with a side of Texas sassy. 1. I’m finishing Shattered now and am looking forward to the third book by Dani Pettrey, which I believe will be coming out soon. Definitely finish Lynette Eason’s series. I’m also a reader of historicals. Elizabeth Camden’s new one, Into the Whirlwind, is very good, as well as Tamera Alexander’s To Whisper Her Name. Wow! Too many to list! 🙂

    • I have heard Tamera Alexander’s are amazing! My Precious Redhead just finished Colleen Coble’s Lightkeeper series. They became part of her all-time favorites!
