I Love a Good Mystery!

Mara’s Journal – Chapter 3

Mara pictureI love being part of a group of authors. That way I can gush about chapters and the way the story is going without only waving my own flag. If you missed any of Mara’s story, you’re going to want to read up on her at Write Integrity Press. How she created her current state of affairs and why she’s chosen the path she’s on.

The story premise: After coming to know the Lord, Mara Adkins feels compelled to try to right the wrongs she committed during her more manipulative days. And she’s got a LOT of victims to encounter. Yet God just might intend that one of them hold her heart.

These pages were stuck together with the ones before it. At first, I thought that the icing from Mara’s cake bomb did the trick, but I never found any remnants of icing. Maybe Miss Piggy licked it all up?
From Mara herself:

Visit to a golf course architectNannying

I think the title of this job, Dog Nanny, is much more impressive-sounding than it really is. Miss Piggy was a doll and made few demands. With her curled up on my lap, I actually thumbed through an entire issue of Vogue without interruption. I could have loved this job.

But for whatever reason, evil stepchild sabotaged me. It’s probably for the better. After only one afternoon of sitting, I could already feel my metabolism slowing.

Maybe whenever I actually get a place of my own, I can get a dog. Not a Shih Tzu like Miss Piggy. I’d hate to start resembling one of them. But maybe a Doberman. That could be a fun dog to have. Wouldn’t have to worry about any men coming around, for sure.

And I mean that from the heart. After two visits done, I’m realizing that the apologies themselves aren’t nearly so much trouble as letting these men back under my skin. I’m not backing out of meeting with all of these guys, but I will never let another man hold so much influence that he can all-but destroy me the way Jared did.

Bringing me back around to the Doberman issue. Wish I’d thought about getting a dog before Jared dumped me.

Wistfully,

Mara

PS from Marji Laine: A Dozen Apologies provides a special treat—though not as precious as a furr-ball puppy but close—for the readers! You all get to help decide the ending of this book! Too much fun!

The way it works is: A new chapter will post each weekday at Write Integrity Press. Read the 13 chapters (from 12 different authors) and then choose the hero you like the best. The guy who gets the most votes gets the girl! Whoop!  And as a bonus, the book itself, which will offer the only chance to see the final chapter, will be free over Valentine weekend! Win-Win!

Your Turn: If you had a dog that resembled you, what type of dog would it be?

Author: Marji Laine

Marji is a recently "graduated" homeschooling mom whose twin girls have blessed her by sticking around the nest for a little longer. She spends her days directing the children’s music program at her church and working with the authors of Write Integrity Press to put out the best possible version of their books. Raised in suburban Dallas, she got her first taste of writing through the stories of brilliant authors of their day, Mignon Eberhart and Phyllis A. Whitney, and through stage experience. After directing and acting in productions for decades, Marji started writing her own scripts. From that early beginning, she delved into creating scintillating suspense with a side of Texas sassy. She invites readers to unravel their inspiration, seeking a deeper knowledge of the Lord’s Great Mystery that invites us all.

  1. I love all types of dogs. From a little long haired Beagle named Maggie, to Great Danes. Dogs are so loving and loyal.

  2. I’m kind of a chocolate lab. Not a well-trained one, either. But a good-natured one that gets into trouble now and then. 😀

  3. We’ve had Abby since she was 11 months old – she turns 13 years old in April. Our hair has grown gray together, so I would say my German shepherd mixed with something we don’t know. 🙂

  4. Since my heritage is Russian, I’ll say the Russian wolfhound 🙂

  5. I should answer this one. I think I resemble a beagle. I’ve got a little sharper nose than I’d like, longer than a Cocker Spaniel but shorter than a retriever. I’m easily distracted by scents (though I go more for the baking and floral smells). And I do happy dances like Snoopy does! (Yes, he’s a beagle, too.)
