Freedom: Worship

“For you will go out with joy And be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12

What a party! I think our times of singing and rejoicing in our Lord’s presence is a precursor to the gala we’ll enjoy when we meet Him.

But worship incorporates more than music.

Worship is us blowing a kiss to God. Doing something that delights Him. And it doesn’t only happen on Sunday mornings. Worship is helping a stranger with her groceries, encouraging those who are down, tending sick, providing for the needy. Worship is the way your heart-focus seeps onto the contours of your face. How joy emanates even during mundane times.

And worship is recognizing God’s hand. His moving in the smallest ways and calling Him on it! I think there are more worship opportunities Monday to Saturday than we realize!

Praise God for that Sunday worship time, though!

Stained glass windowFormer Dallas Cowboy Chad Hennings visited our church last weekend and commented on how blessed we are that we don’t have to worry about Gestapo crashing through our doors to arrest us all.  What a pleasure to lift voices, hearts, hands to the Father in uninhibited praise. To let the concerns that we struggle with fade in the presence of our great God.

And to relish in that presence with music, prayer, and the speaking of truth! The opportunity should excite God’s people. May our opportunities for worship never be insignificant, routine, forced, or viewed as duties.

A great hymn by John Samuel Bewley Monsell, 1863 perfectly describes this part of our relationship with God.

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
Bow down before Him, His glory proclaim
With gold of obedience and incense of holiness
Kneel and adore Him. The Lord (YHWH) is His Name!

I was inspired by a call from Billy Graham’s daughter, Anne, to spend the first 7 days of July in prayer for the United States. Her article is here. I hope you will join me in this challenge. Anne writes:

Pray! in the 7th month, July
Pray! on each of the first 7 days of July
Pray! and fast on July 7th for 7 hours

Our country so desperately needs to return to God. “Protect Your people, Oh Lord.”

Marji is a homeschooling mom with teenage twins left in the nest. She spends her days transporting to and from volleyball, teaching writing classes at a local coop, and directing the children’s music program at her church. Raised in suburban Dallas, she got her first taste of writing through the stories of brilliant authors of their day, Mignon Eberhart and Phyllis A. Whitney, and through stage experience. After directing and acting in productions for decades, Marji started writing her own scripts. From that early beginning, she delved into creating scintillating suspense with a side of Texas sassy. She invites readers to unravel their inspiration, seeking a deeper knowledge of the Lord’s Great Mystery that invites us all.
