I love setting my stories in Dallas and North Texas. My first solo publication, Grime Beat, occurs downtown and in the surrounding suburbs. It’s so fun to identify “live” locations! Check out my LIFE IN TEXAS board on Pinterest.

I’ve lived in this area (both suburban and rural) all my life. And there’s nothing I enjoy more than sharing some of the best things that are exclusive to this area. In this case:

Ellis county, Texas is purported to be the Bluebonnet Capitol of the World. Tweet This!

Only a half-hour away from the depth of downtown Dallas, this area is covered with rolling hills of lush grasses, unknown bushes of bright yellow blossoms, the reds of Indian paintbrush, and bright purple vetch. Truly our Almighty Artist’s exquisite palette.

My girls and I started the annual, southward trips several years ago. In lieu of a regular spring break, this April trek has always fallen at the perfect time. And this year’s journey was no different – well, expect that Precious Redhead had to stay behind nursing a sore throat. Bummer.

Dinky Twinks were excellent companions though. You know, looking at the pictures of my girls, I’m thinking that the name I’ve called them since birth doesn’t exactly fit any longer.

Maybe I should try:

Glamour Girl and Spunky?

Your Turn: What is something unique about where you live?

Author: Marji Laine

Marji is a recently "graduated" homeschooling mom whose twin girls have blessed her by sticking around the nest for a little longer. She spends her days directing the children’s music program at her church and working with the authors of Write Integrity Press to put out the best possible version of their books. Raised in suburban Dallas, she got her first taste of writing through the stories of brilliant authors of their day, Mignon Eberhart and Phyllis A. Whitney, and through stage experience. After directing and acting in productions for decades, Marji started writing her own scripts. From that early beginning, she delved into creating scintillating suspense with a side of Texas sassy. She invites readers to unravel their inspiration, seeking a deeper knowledge of the Lord’s Great Mystery that invites us all.

  1. Our area is as rural as it gets, yet we’re within an hour of Huntsville’s Space and Rocket Center, and Browns Ferry Nuclear facility. 🙂
