Marji Laine: Faith~Driven Fiction

. . . Authentic and Intense

First Dates: Mindy Obenhaus

pair-539476_1280The love story blooming in my second book, Grime Wave, inspired me to explore some first dates by some of the best in Christian fiction romance and suspense. Before I put them on the spot, I shared one of my experiences HERE.

Today I have another Dallas-area author sharing her funny story. Mindy Obenhaus has several books with Love Inspired (Great Reads!) and last year’s book, Rescuing the Texan’s Heart is a finalist in the coveted Carol Awards given by the American Christian Fiction Writers. I’m rooting for her!

Mindy-52 (800x533)Mindy’s Story:

It’s hard to nail down my husband’s and my first date. Since I was a single mother with three daughters, there wasn’t a lot of going out. I suppose the event that stands out most
is the night before we started dating. The singles group at our church was having a scavenger hunt/pizza/roller skating party.

We all met at the church, where I spotted him as soon as I walked into the fellowship hall. At least I thought it was him. But as I got closer, I realized I was wrong. He looked kind of the same, but not like I remembered. So, I did an about face and hid in the restroom until I was no longer red-faced.

When I finally emerged, this same guy came up to me and said, “Why did you run away?”

It was him! However, he no longer had the mustache I remembered.

When it was time to leave for the scavenger hunt, I made sure I was on his team. I remember running through the mall in search of our next clue, determined to prove myself worthy. In reality, I’m sure I looked like a fool.

After pizza, we all met at the local roller skating rink. And I got to skate with HIM. That meant holding hands, talking without interruption… Then he fell on his bum. Being the sensitive person that I am, I burst out laughing.

Yet for some reason, despite all of my stupid moves, he sought me out at the end of the evening and asked if he could call me sometime. Which he did—the very next day.

It took two years for me to convince him we should get married, but this girl finally got her man. And twenty-one years later, I’m so glad we did.

A-Fathers-Second-Chance-CoverLook for Mindy’s Latest!

In my latest release, A Father’s Second Chance, Gage Purcell is a single father with two daughters. Dating is the last thing on his mind. But as we all know, God’s purpose often supersedes our plans.

Repairing Her Heart

Businesswoman Celeste Thompson has one goal: to make her restaurant and hotel a success. She doesn’t need any distractions, even from handsome contractor Gage Purcell and his two adorable little girls. Besides, single dad Gage is just biding his time before a big job at the mines comes through. But as Celeste’s project springs to life, their arguments transform into attraction. Gage isn’t looking for romance, especially not with another career-driven woman like his ex-wife. But openhearted Celeste is more than just another work-consumed client. She might just be his happily-ever-after.
