I Love a Good Mystery!

First and Last

B&B infantsThis is a year of first for me. My first novel releases in a couple of months – also my first solo flight into traditional publication. That’s huge. I’ve started working with a new ministry and have taken on a new role in one of the other ministries with which I work. I’ve also taken on the teaching tasks for 2 brand new high school classes at our large co-op. One is Bible study that I can really sink my teeth into. The other is government.

REALLY? MEEEEE???? Anyone who knows me, knows that I hate politics. I started to use a kinder word, but no… I seriously hate politics. I vote. I educate myself on the issues (when I can find a reliable source!), but I won’t talk politics with anyone! Never have I heard such anger and bitter meanness than when listening in on people disagreeing over political opponents. I’ve even witnessed believers disgusted with each other over their choices and ending friendships due to the media’s take on the political environment.

But I can get into the procedures. The whys and wherefores of the issues, though that also will be a stretch! O_o

_MG_0232It’s a year of lasts for me as well. (Likely the last time I EVER teach government! LOL!)

Tuesday marks the last time my girls have a first day of school. Their senior year. A lot of family and friends who remember them like the picture are shocked that they are seniors. As a homeschooling mom, I don’t feel it’s so hard to believe because I’ve been there every day with them.

After this year, I’ll be retiring as a homeschooling mom. Wow! This is my seventeenth year. And I’ll be ending my work with our homeschool coop after sixteen years. Likely there will be some other “lasts” as the year continues, but I’m looking forward to them. Oh, that sounds so bad, but I’m not so much looking forward to the end of schooling as I am excited about what the Lord is doing in the lives of my family. And I can’t wait to see what He has in store for my dinky twinkies. Sparkle and Spunky have a great foundation!

Your Turn: What firsts are you experiencing or expecting this year? What lasts might be on the horizon?

Author: Marji Laine

Marji is a recently "graduated" homeschooling mom whose twin girls have blessed her by sticking around the nest for a little longer. She spends her days directing the children’s music program at her church and working with the authors of Write Integrity Press to put out the best possible version of their books. Raised in suburban Dallas, she got her first taste of writing through the stories of brilliant authors of their day, Mignon Eberhart and Phyllis A. Whitney, and through stage experience. After directing and acting in productions for decades, Marji started writing her own scripts. From that early beginning, she delved into creating scintillating suspense with a side of Texas sassy. She invites readers to unravel their inspiration, seeking a deeper knowledge of the Lord’s Great Mystery that invites us all.

  1. I self-published my first writing project (a novella) a few months ago. I will be taking my first solo road trip next week. I don’t anticipate any lasts this year, but you never know. God is in control.

  2. Thanks so much, Jennifer! Especially for your encouragement!

  3. Congrats on everything!☺
