It’s Contest Season

Last month, I started talking publishing on my own radio show. What a fun time we’ve had so far! In January, author Shirley Crowder joined me and we chatted about her experiences.

You can listen to my introductory program at the Blog Talk Radio link!

And be sure to join us next Tuesday at 7PM Eastern for another episode of Publishing Laine. This time, we’ll be talking about Contest Season. This is the time to be entering your 2016 releases in contests. Don’t miss out on this opportunity. Yes, contests really matter. Here’s the LINK for Tuesday evening’s show!

Do you have a question about contests or awards? Ask me here in a comment or email me at downpublishingway@gmail.com. If I use your question on the air, I’ll send you a free book. Last month David Humphries asked me a question on Facebook and got three recent releases as a thank you. (Well, it WAS my first show!)

And join us on Tuesday. (You can always call in with a question, too!) Who knows, you might hear about a contest that is perfect for your book!

Author: Marji Laine

Marji is a homeschooling mom with teenage twins left in the nest. She spends her days transporting to and from volleyball, teaching writing classes at a local coop, and directing the children’s music program at her church. Raised in suburban Dallas, she got her first taste of writing through the stories of brilliant authors of their day, Mignon Eberhart and Phyllis A. Whitney, and through stage experience. After directing and acting in productions for decades, Marji started writing her own scripts. From that early beginning, she delved into creating scintillating suspense with a side of Texas sassy. She invites readers to unravel their inspiration, seeking a deeper knowledge of the Lord’s Great Mystery that invites us all.

  1. Marji, I assume most of your readers are published, either traditionally or indie. But I’m drumming up interest in the ACFW Genesis (unpublished) Contest. Submissions are at very low numbers at this time. ACFW members should go to the website, read the requirements and dates, and submit if appropriate. It’s more than a contest, you know. Even if you don’t win, you get 3 in-depth critiques.

  2. Here will be a controversy for you to use. About contests. So here is a good question for which I so far have no answer. The contest starts. You get your word count exactly right. You edit and edit to meet the precise conditions. To pay the entry fee and send it in. Your story and fee vanish into thin air and you don’t hear a word in return. Sort of makes you want to jump up and enter three more. Know what I mean? Author Terry Palmer on behalf of all those who found this to be true.
