Fathoming God: El HaNe’eman

treasure chestI expected to end my series on Fathoming God with my last article, El Roi. (I still love that name! So personal!) But I happened upon an extensive list of new names. Most of them, I’d never heard before, but each so expressive of God’s characters.

What a treasure trove! Continue reading

Fathoming God: El Roi

LILABNER STAMPGIFLast week we focused on El Shaddai, the All-Sufficient God. This week, we’re learning about El Roi.

This name, when I hear it, brings back images of The Beverly Hillbillies or Green Acres. Surely there was an Elroy in that bunch somewhere. Though that picture in my head doesn’t come near to the attribute of God that this name inspires. Continue reading

Fathoming God: El Shaddai

Age_to_Age_LP

El Shaddai. I confess, this is the name which originally sent me on my current journey to fathoming God. I’m dating myself to admit that I sang the Amy Grant version of the song “El Shaddai” when I was in college. It contained the names El Elyon and Adonai as well. Funny how, 29 years later, the names drive me to learn what they mean about the God I serve. Continue reading

Fathoming God: El Elyon

stonehengeI’m switching dates around a bit to work with my part of a blog tour. I’m hosting Beth K. Vogt and reviewing her new book on Thursday. So we’ll have the Faith~Drive before we have the fiction this week.

This name for God goes well with last week’s name, El Olam. Last week, we studied Everlasting God. This week, we delve into the era of gods and goddesses. Continue reading

Fathoming God: El Olam

EternityOh Ancient of Days! Wow, what a name! I don’t know about you, but I’d never heard of the name El Olam before I started the study. But then investigating God’s Word is a set up to learning new things about Him, and myself. So I shouldn’t be surprised.

Last week we spent extra time digging into Elohim. The Mighty One in plural. The singular of Elohim, El, is part of this name. Intriguing, huh?  Continue reading

More on Elohim

Last weekfortress, I started examining the name of Elohim. What an amazing name! So much to unpack!

Like I mentioned last week, the name means “Mighty One.” I find it telling that God revealed this name as the first in scripture. This name that speaks of His power begs us to humble ourselves before Him. Continue reading

Fathoming God: Elohim

Sunrise through silhouette of treesFor the last few months, I’ve been going through the names of God in order to understand Him. Just like in any relationship, I have to know my Heavenly Father better and better, to maintain our relationship and to grow closer to Him. Examining His many names has given such insight into his character. Last week, I shared a review of the names that I’d already gone through. Interestingly enough, I started with Jehovah and most all of the names I’ve studied are variations of that key name.

Today, I’m examining Elohim. And many of the coming names will be variations of that one. Continue reading

Fathoming God: Review

touch of faithWe’ve investigated enough names of God at this point, that I thought it might be a good time to revisit His names and the aspects of His character that each one highlights.

And I want to hear from you. I have several more names of God that I want to share. What are some names that you don’t want me to miss? Continue reading

Jehovah Shammah

Fathoming God: Jehovah Tsidkenu

BibleOn Thursday’s I’ve been focused on fathoming God by investigating His names. If you want to follow the studies completed, you’ll find a list of them under the inspiration link at the top, or you can use this one. Today’s study is over Jehovah Tsidkenu (Sid-canoe). This name of God blows my mind. In my attempt to fathom God, this name seems almost unfathomable. Continue reading
