A Dozen Apologies is the title of the newest collaborative novella releasing from Write Integrity Press. I’m so excited about this project! Deep themes of brokenness and surrender mix with some crazy jobs and embarrassing situations to build quite a journey for this new heroine.
Chapters will begin posting on Monday at Write Integrity Press. The story premise: After coming to know the Lord, Mara Adkins feels compelled to try to right the wrongs she committed during her more manipulative days. And she’s got a LOT of victims to encounter. Yet God just might intend that one of them hold her heart.
And here on Faith~Driven Fiction, you’ll find reflections from Mara’s journal, filled with insights like the entry below. I hope you’ll come back often.
The End of the Line.
I can’t believe my dream job is just over. I want to scream at Jared for being unfair. For betraying me. I trusted him.
I think the worst part is that he beat me using my own strengths. Manipulation is supposed to be my super-power. Now I know how it feels to be the victim. So, as much as I’d like to curl up in a ball, or scratch his eyes out, (Gee, he can’t design clothes that he can’t see …. Hmm …. No, bad Mara!) I might as well accept this page turn.
A friend of mine says her psychoanalyst suggests that she write her feelings down—after she’s done crying so the pages don’t get soggy. I can’t promise that I’m done crying, but I’m going to give the idea a try. However, I’m not going to be one of those whiny babies that do nothing but gripe and grumble about their lives. Ugh. If I pick up this journal ten years from now, I don’t want to grimace.
Okay, moving on.
Moving out.
Moving home.
I believed this year would be the turning point in my life. This is NOT the turning point I expected. At least I know one thing: this year can’t get any worse. But in case it does, I think I’ll get a head-start and run down to the market for another pint of Chunky-Monkey Ice Cream.
Resignedly,
Mara
PS from Marji Laine: A Dozen Apologies provides a special treat – not quite as tasty Chunky Monkey, but close – for the readers! You all get to help decide the ending of this book! Too much fun!
The way it works is: A new chapter will post each weekday at Write Integrity Press from January 20 through February 5. Read the 13 chapters and then choose the hero you like the best. The guy who gets the most votes gets the girl! Whoop! And as a bonus, the book itself, which will offer the only chance to see the final chapter, will be free over Valentine weekend! Win-Win!
Your turn: Have you ever felt helpless or hopeless about an unfairness someone has done to you?
